Providing Duct Repair & Replacement Services for the Dallas/Fort Worth Area |
What follows are some pictures that illustrate some of the problems that can occur in your attic without your knowledge. We inspect for these kinds of problems especially where decreased comfort is being experienced by our customers.

Here is an example of a well sealed junction where one supply duct splits off into 2 smaller runs. Many times this junction is not sealed with mastic like this one and you can feel conditioned air leaking from the seams

Here is an example of some duct runs being compressed by a beam in an attic. This is cutting off 50% or more the conditioned air to two different rooms in this home. This customer complained that these rooms were always hot in the summer and cold in the winter. We replaced and rerouted these ducts because the flex duct was permanently compressed.

Here is an example of a strap cutting off air flow in another duct run. Most contractors are in it for expediency instead of doing it right. We use an air flow meter called an anemometer to discover these kinds of problems with your HVAC system.

This is more typical than you may realize. Here is an old gray wrapped duct that has deteriorated and split open, leaking vast amounts of conditioned air into the attic. Somebody has attempted to fix it by wrapping it with black plastic which is like wrapping a rag around a leaking hose. This customer was complaining that this bedroom was always too cold or hot until we replaced this duct with R-6 flex duct sealed with mastic at the register boot and the plenum.

Many older homes in the metroplex have this kind of metal duct wrapped in fiberglass. We did not peel back the fiberglass for this picture, this is typically how we find it. Metal ducts are basically sections of pipe fitted together with dozens of leaking seams. You can see a junction that is leaking air in the middle of this picture. Before blowing insulation, ventilating the attic or doing radiant barrier, the best course of action with metal ducts is to immediately replace them with well sealed R-6 or R-8 flex duct.
